This arrangement is based on the traditional folk song and paints a picture of the imagined exploits of the poachers on that moonlit night. Contrasting sections alternate the hearty irreverence of the gamekeeper and local judiciary, stalking the game and a chase through the woods at night.
Parts for Contra Alto Clarinet and Bass Saxophone are provided as optional extra colour in lower lines of the arrangement.

Dance of the Hours
Amilcare Ponchielli---------------------------------39¼ mins
Clts(Eb 3Bb A Bs) Saxes (SAATB)
PaP11014
£30.00
home
This arrangement is based on Amilcare Ponchielli’s famous ballet suite which forms the finale to Act 3 of his opera La Gioconda from 1876. The suite became well known and was often performed as a standalone ballet. In the twentieth century its popularity was sustained partly due to its appearance as a segment in Disney’s Fantasia (1940) in the form of a comic ballet featuring anthropomorphised ostriches, hippos, elephants and alligators. Then later it remained present in popular and mainstream culture when segments of the piece formed the basis for the hit song Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh in 1963 by Allan Sherman.
In this arrangement, however, the focus remains closer to the grace of the original ballet rather than that of comic song or animation. [Arranged by Adrian Budgen]

The Saints Go Marching
Traditional---------------------------------------------33 mins
Clts(Eb 3Bb A Bs) Saxes (SAATB)
PaP11030

This arrangement is based on the traditional gospel hymn When the Saints Go Marching In where the familiar chorus is presented in a straightforward bright and celebratory style. The verse, by contrast, tends to be deconstructed and, using quotation amongst other things, turns some unexpected corners. Overall the shapes and figures are very playable and easily achievable by a developing ensemble. [Arranged by Adrian Budgen]

A Merry Assembly of Countryfolk
Ludwig van Beethoven-------------------------------36 mins
Clts(Eb 3Bb A Bs) Saxes (SAATB)
PaP11004
£30.00

The rich and familiar melodic lines of the third movement of Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony provide the foundation for this arrangement. It has been designed to be faithful to the original at the same time as sympathetic to the features and idiosyncrasies of the single reeds. Marion Scott describes the movement as a ‘Peasants’ Festival with its delicious portrait of the country band’, so what better than to extend it to a choir of lip-smacking clarinettists and saxophonists. PaP11003

Research revealed conflicting information regarding the source of this traditional folksong so we can be certain only that it travelled well throughout the British Isles and quite probably beyond. This arrangement places the jaunty tune against various bridges, links and episodes that take the ensemble on a bright and breezy escapade. The returning tune needs to be played with a swagger or with attitude in the contemporary vernacular! [Arranged by Adrian Budgen]

This is an exciting set of variations developed on the Nokia mobile phone ringtone by Terrega that include classical, baroque, blues, cool and latin influences. The Telephone Ring that features at the start and end of the piece can be achieved either by using a keyboard sampler or mobile technology (a sound file can be provided at no extra cost by the publisher) or by the ensemble performing a ‘vocal ring’ as shown in the excerpt. Another option in the performance of the piece is to involve the audience with their mobile phones. Please note a minimum of six Bb Clarinets are required to cover various divisi sections.

This arrangement is based on the Welsh Winter Carol Nos Galan and is subtitled '... fill the mead cup, raise the wassail ...' which is a quote from the words of carol. However, the opening line of the carol is 'Deck the hall with boughs of holly' which may be more familiar and be more useful in revealing the underlying tune. A pastoral style bound together with some warm harmony creates a cosy mid-winter atmosphere. [Arranged by Adrian Budgen]

This quirky and uplifting arrangement of the familiar carol is almost a morris dance in its style. Tenor sax and Alto sax 1 are featured with written solos that can be improvised if preferred.
